A zebra crossing away from Wood Green Underground station sits The Goose – an accommodating, yet spacious pub.

Imposing from the outside, one can spot it immediately upon exiting the barriers of the station, making it a convenient meeting point.

As the brightness of the early afternoon’s sunshine radiates through the venue, a warm, friendly clientele happily chat. Some do not even know where to concentrate their attention, given the abundance of options offered by this welcoming watering hole.

The two big screens either side of a spacious front area show the biggest sporting events of the day and two additional plasmas hung either side of pillars in the middle provide further variety of options for sports fans.

Tables sit parties of practically any number and are nicely spaced around, with very comfortable seating. The booths, which line the far end of the front portion are the perfect place to enjoy a nice pub meal.

The large nachos come especially recommended and at just £5, one portion is enough to keep five hungry boys happy, while they enjoy a pint or four of refreshing lagers. £2.29 for a Carlsberg is a hell of a bargain and the wine on offer is also affordable with a glass not costing over £4.50 (medium-sized).

Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Chuck Berry and many other legends of American soul music provide the lively soundtrack for this otherwise conventional English boozer. And if you’ve never tried watching sports to the sound of 'Superstition' or 'Johnny B. Goode', then let’s just say that no matter the result, they’ll make you feel better than John Motson or Guy Mowbray ever did.

Bar staff are friendly and willing to search for sports that you might want to watch if they’re not currently showing them – making this the perfect place to make sure you don’t miss anything.

So, a classic, traditional pub vibe, but also with an added dimension of American sports bar…does it end there? No, there’s more! Round the back, there is a pinball machine, a true blast from the past, much like the musical selection, which smoothly accompanies any number of bar games in the back areas.

On one side, there’s a darts board and on the other a pool table for those who fancy ‘racking them up’. The beer garden is adjacent to the games area and holds several tables for smokers and those who wish to enjoy that rare London sunny afternoon.

Whether you’re going in a small or bigger group, ‘one size fits all’ at this well-equipped establishment.
