Discovering Greenwich is not complete without a visit to The Gipsy Moth. Its warm, cosy interior, combined with the conservatory and the spacious beer garden offer the perfect pit stop from tourism in this friendly part of Southeast London.

Scenic drinking

The highlight of this popular pub is the picturesque beer garden, with many tables spread around plenty of lovely green plants and offering a fantastic view of the Cutty Sark ship, which is just over the road. It was pleasant to observe the beautiful surroundings, whilst enjoying the company of friends on a cold, grey day. I can only imagine what it would be like when the sun is shining.

The ship’s imposing presence is even nicer in the evening time as there are lights, which illuminate it, which must make for some very pretty summer evenings.

The Gipsy Moth provides a wide selection of beers, including imported, high-quality brands such as the Czech favourite Budvar and the German Veltins – a rarity in London. Additionally, there are over 20 speciality beers and ciders on tap from continental flavours to local ones - this trendy pub also holds fresh locally brewed ales.

The one downside is that you’ll have to splash out a pretty penny for such class. A pint on average is north of  £4 and a large glass of wine is in the region of £6-7. This should not discourage you from visiting this premium establishment however as the beers are served with flawless precision and the wines are of the highest quality.

Bonus: Fine dining

To accompany your beverage of choice, it is highly recommended that you delve into the delectable dishes served up by The Gipsy Moth kitchen.

The house specials include: the salmon fishcakes, which are served with a delicious blend of lemon crème fraiche and potato wedges; and the cheese burger, freshly grilled (West Country beef) with chips, and options to add bacon or pulled pork. These meals will fill you up nicely for the reasonable prices of £10.50 and £9.75 respectively.

Don’t forget to enjoy the delicacies on offer for pudding as well.  If you’re a proper sweet tooth, the only option is getting the combo platter, since it’s too difficult to select just one of the desserts. A chocolate brownie, lemon cheesecake, chocolate tart and ice cream provides something for all tastes.

The Gipsy Moth is Greenwich’s favourite and whether you’re stopping off for lunch during a touristy venture into Southeast London’s historical sites or if it’s that late afternoon/early evening fresh pint on a lovely summer night you’re craving, this high-quality venue is the perfect place.
