The Alexandra, a short walk away from Wimbledon station, is a fantastic place to enjoy friends’ company. The quintessential element setting it apart from other pubs in the area is its internal transformations.

Home of four different bars, this Young’s pub caters to young and old alike and provides different vibes, without giving up its elegance.

When entering this establishment, you are immediately placed into a very traditional, welcoming and homely environment reflected by the layout of the room. The Green Bar, as it is known, has that hush, normally associated with ‘old man pubs’, but the clientele in fact brings a great mix of people together.

The comfortable seating and the very friendly staff on hand give this bar a local feel with two midsize plasmas showing the rugby to complete the room’s decor. The wide selection of beers makes you spoiled for choice, but the somewhat sour pricetag of £4.25 on imported lagers may dent spirits a tad.

Spirits are quickly raised again when walking through to the Sports Bar – a spacious and more lively spot. This more tavern-like space holds a big screen (showing mostly rugby and football) and additional plasmas on the side walls. The sports fan (like myself) leaves well and truly pleased no matter the outcome with the lively, yet respectable ambiance.

From the Sports Bar, take the stairs up to the Roof Terrace, to enjoy some fresh air, music and of course more drinks of the finest quality. The bar lining this outside space is equally as well-equipped as its downstairs counterparts and it is fully covered to accommodate customers in whatever weather conditions.

Once the sport has finished, you may wish to make your way to the Lounge Bar, located the other side of the Green Bar for a typical Sunday Roast at

£12.95. The delicious freshly served meat is all prepared using produce from local butchers. So if it’s horse meat you’re worried about, you can forget about it, relax and enjoy the sizeable portions with your family and friends.

After the roast, enjoy the live music on display (every Sunday) and cosy up to the fire (in winter) or bask in the sunshine in the outside sitting area (in summer).

Just when you thought you heard it all, The Alexandra also caters to the late-night party people. On Friday and Saturday nights, the Lounge Bar is open until 1 and there is a resident DJ who plays out all the ‘en vogue’ tunes, so don’t forget your dancing shoes!

A truly fascinating array of different atmospheres all in one venue!
